We are here to help you! We can help you meet the targets laid out in the national curriculum for outdoor eduction and building team skills. We provide follow-up lesson plans and work sheets. INSET days and staff training Our activities are ideal when introducing children to a new school Our activities build self confidence, teach team skills, improve and improve fine and gross motor skills Children gain experience of alternative sports. Activities on-site can be accessed by children of all abilities. Negotiable additional travel costs for schools out of Dorset.
The activities we offer are climbing, archery, team skills and the Active Challenge. Out of these activities we can put together a package of activities to suite your school. |
Climbing the tower Putting a package togetherWe can provide a package of activities for one or more groups of children. The activities you select will depend on the age group and the purpose for doing the activities. We usually run activities in half-day sessions, with two sessions running in parallel. Groups will therefore take two days each to complete all four activities. We can cater for whole year groups, spread over half a term. Follow up lessons are linked to the activities and are available for different stages of the national curriculum. They cover subjects including history, physics, applied mathematics and biology. Running the sessionsA typical structure of activities would be for three groups of children doing activities concurrently, each group being tutored in climbing, archery and team building before attempting the team challenge. Groups would therefore have four half-days of activities each, which can be spread over a period of time or completed in a couple of days. Resources provided by us (lesson plans and work sheets) then capitalise on the experience of doing activities to teach lessons in a variety of subjects. |

We operate a 7m (24ft) high mobile climbing tower; a flexible system of bolt-on hand allows us to customise it to the abilities of the groups being taught. It requires 7m x 9m space and can go anywhere relatively firm and flat, such as a playing field a playground or a staff car park. Erecting the climbing tower We recommend groups of up to twelve children at a time, which allows children to work in groups of three, on each of the four climbing faces. We will teach children about safety and technique and working togther. Climbing is suitable for a wide age range from six years up to adults. The climbing tower can also be used with auto-belay devices, which makes it suitable for giving a lot of people a go at climbing at events such as open days, sports days and fetés. Follow up lessons are available based on climbing are available for biology and mathematics. |

Archery is a sport of skill rather than strength or agility. This makes it ideal for boosting the confidence of children who don't normally excel at sports. An archery range will fit into most school football pitches. We instruct up to eighteen children in six groups of three, one child from each group shooting at any one time. Archery can fit into most football pitches We can integrate teaching history with archery, linking with subjects including the Tudors and invader and settlers. Teaching different forms of archery is an effective way of teaching the difference ways bows would have been used in hunting and in war. Follow up lessons are available for mathematics and physics, as well a history. |

A truly memorable way of finishing a package of activities is to do the Active challenge. Active challenges build on skills learned initial sessions, placing teams in competition with each other in a series of games. Each game requires a different set of skills from teams in order to achieve the goal. |

In life achievement is nearly always a team effort. Groups are set a series of challenges designed to get children to plan together and work together to achieve the goal. Our challenges are fun and imaginative and designed to keep children's attention. Challenges incorporate speaking and listening, which is a key part of the national literacy framework. A great ice breaker for helping children settle into a new school. They get to know each other better and start off their relationships cooperating rather than competing. This activity can be done both outside and inside. |
